One of the great things about the web is the low point of entry into a market place - it is relatively easy to compete with the "big fish". Users can judge which products and services they like based on their merits, as opposed to the size of their marketing campaign. Another great thing about the web is that web applications can draw on the wealth of APIs (such as Google Maps) available. I created blipstar™ for businesses that want the usefulness of a store locator tool but don't have the expertise, money or time to create one from scratch. By avoiding the overheads of a traditional business I can keep down costs which means better value for you.
I've started a blipstar™ development blog.
I am a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) developer/consultant based in the United Kingdom with GISP accreditation. I have experience in Javascript/AJAX, Java and map "mashups" as well as traditional GIS such as ArcGIS™ and MapInfo™. If you are interested in commissioning a custom mapping application feel free to email me.
I used the following tools/libraries/resources to create blipstar™:
| Google Maps API | Background mapping |
| Jakarta Commons FileUpload | Uploading data files |
| Java Excel API | Importing Excel worksheets |
| JDBF | Importing DBF files |
| Java 1.5 | Developing the JSP code |
| Apache Tomcat 5 | Serving the JSP |
| Babel Fish | Translating the GUI text elements |
