information > instructions > defining
creating a store locations file

blipstar™ needs to know where to plot your stores on the map ("geocoding"). Although you can enter this manually it is more convenient to create a list of store names and addresses and upload it. The list can be defined in a spreadsheet or text file using at least two columns with the following headers:
  • Name - the name of the store
  • Address - the address of the store
The address can contain a postal/ZIP code but these can be defined in a separate column if required. The following optional column headers are also recognised:
  • ZIP code or Postcode - postal code
  • HTML - text/HTML containing information which is displayed with the store name
  • Lat - if the store is already geocoded, its latitude (decimal degrees)
  • Long - if the store is already geocoded, its longitude (decimal degrees)
Following these tips should ensure the address is recognised.

The HTML column can be used to add extra information or links to the store website etc. Specifying a lat and long is faster as the address does not need to be geocoded. Your list can be saved as an Excel spreadsheet, a text file (CSV or tab delimited) or a DBF file. An example of the format required is shown below:
